This privacy notice is put at your disposal in accordance with the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, its rules of procedure, and other applicable regulations (the Law).
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (“CIMMYT” or “we”), located at Carretera México-Veracruz Km. 45, Colonia El Batán, Texcoco, Estado de México, C.P. 56237, is the data controller of the personal data, and hence a data controller, is required to provide you with a Privacy Notice setting out the ways in which your personal data is collected, used, the parties to whom your data is disclosed, and your legal rights in relation to such data.
CIMMYT is committed to the protection and safeguarding of your personal data and to treating your personal data in accordance with lawfulness, quality, information, purpose, loyalty, proportionality, and responsibility principles established in The Law. In this regard, we inform you the following:
For what purposes do we process your personal data?
The primary purposes for which CIMMYT will collect and process your Personal Data are:
- To create a profile, administering and maintaining your record in the CIMMYT Alumni management system.
- To send you promotional information on courses, seminars, symposiums, workshops and CIMMYT events.
- To invite you to meetings, events, forums and associations with CIMMYT Alumni Program.
- To manage your participation in the CIMMYT activities in which you register or enroll.
- To develop and support our network of alumni groups, providing opportunities to connect.
- To conduct surveys to know your opinion regarding the attention received, participation, preferences, and feedback to improve the CIMMYT and CIMMYT Alumni
- Create and analyze aggregated (fully anonymized) information about our Alumni for statistical and research purposes in support of CIMMYT’s mission.
- Purposes related with your role as CIMMYT Alumni.
- Complying with CIMMYT’s statutory and legal obligations and legitimate interests
In addition, CIMMYT may process your personal data for the following ancillary purposes:
- Send you information about our industry or topics we believe may be of interest to you, as well as news, communications, or advertising from CIMMYT or related institutions in Mexico or worldwide.
- Use your personal image, in photo or video, may be used to publish CIMMYT’s informative and promotional material.
- If requested and applicable, to manage your profile in CIMMYT Job board
What personal data do we collect?
The personal data that you freely and voluntarily provide to CIMMYT as participant in the CIMMYT Program Alumni, includes, but is not limited to your personal information, identification data (may include first and last names, gender, date of birth, place of birh, nationality, address, private email and phone number, national ID number, passport, emergency contacts), work information, academic information, immigration information, and other information CIMMYT gather as part of your relationship with CIMMYT (hereinafter “Personal Data”).
To whom do we share your personal data?
We inform you that CIMMYT may transfer your personal data to administrative, judicial, or governmental authorities of any kind in Mexico or abroad, provided that the transfer is required by law or by judicial or administrative order, or when such transfer is necessary. CIMMYT does not require your consent for these transfers
Similarly, your personal data may be shared with third parties that are members of the CGIAR System Organization and other research centers, nongovernmental organizations, and non-profit organizations. CIMMYT may share your Personal Data nationally and internationally with Funders, prospective Funders, as part of CIMMYT’s legal obligations. In cases where CIMMYT needs to transfer your Personal Data to other third parties – internal and external auditors, etc., you will be notified. In any case, CIMMYT will share your personal data with high attention to the third parties’ level of technical and organizational ability to manage personal data as required by the Law and GDPR standards.
Other than these cases, CIMMYT will not share or transfer your personal data to third parties except in the cases provided in the applicable law.
How can you access, rectify or cancel your personal data, or object to its processing?
You have the right to know what personal data we have about you, what we use it for, and the conditions of use we give to it (Access). Likewise, you have the right to request the correction of your personal information if it is outdated, inaccurate, or incomplete (Rectification); that we remove it from our records or databases (Cancellation); as well as to object to the use of your personal data for specific purposes (Objection). These rights are known as ARCO rights
To exercise any of the ARCO rights, you must submit a request addressed to our Legal Department to the following email address: cimmyt-privacy@cgiar.org
Through the application, you must provide the following: (i) full name; (ii) a copy of your official identification (passport, voter registration card, or driver's license); (iii) a clear and precise description of the personal data you wish to access, rectify, cancel or oppose, and (iv) or any other element that facilitates the location of your data.
CIMMYT's response will indicate whether the request for access, rectification, cancellation, or opposition is appropriate and, if so, CIMMYT will make the determination within 15 working days from the date on which it communicates the response to the holder of the personal data or his representative, as the case may be. The deadlines may be extended under the terms set out in the law. CIMMYT will provide digital documents if you exercise your right of access
How can you revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data?
You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data. Please note, however, that we will not always be able to comply with your request or terminate use immediately, as we may be required by law to continue processing your personal data.

Personal data which is transferred to or is accessible by CIMMYT has been designed to be as limited as possible to follow best data protection and privacy practices.
CIMMYT ensures that there are appropriate controls in place to protect personnel data processed by CIMMYT.

This privacy notice may be modified or updated due to legal requirements, our privacy practices, among other causes.
